PGI re-employs retired Medical Faculty
Chandigarh: A former PGI faculty, Dr. D. Behera who had recently superannuated from service has been recently re-appointed. Dr. Behera had recently retired from service on March 31, 2018.
A rare appointment, this honour comes the way of eminent faculty alone in esteemed medical institutions like the PGI and AIIMS.
The other two selected for appointments are Dr. GK Rath, an oncologist in AIIMS, New Delhi, who has been given charge of the Cancer department for the next 2 years and Dr. HS Chawla a former head of the dental department of PGI has also been reappointed.
“I got offers from many private hospitals soon after I retired. But, I am keen to teach and do research in PGI. I will also serve the patients here,” Dr Behera told. He has also served as Dean of research at the institute.
However, Behera after this reappointment will not head any committee in the institute. Having completed 40 years in the PGI he has been holding positions in national and international bodies in tuberculosis research.
“The government is keen to retain talented and experienced faculty who are usually lured by the private sector. Therefore, there is a provision of taking consent from the faculty of the concerned department and then move it for approval to the Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC),” said a senior faculty to the TOI.
65 years is the age of retirement of teaching faculty in national institutes like AIIMS and PGI.
