New Delhi: 11 MBBS graduates from Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences and Research who had filed a writ against the admission rules/ policy of postgraduate courses at IP University were given a hearing by the High Court yesterday.

According to the petition, the admission to postgraduate medical courses under state quota by the university is restricted to undergraduate students of IP University alone

The petition filed through Advocate Gautam Swarup stated that the IP University admission brochure’s contravened Articles/Clauses discriminate between similarly placed students within the NCT of Delhi, reports legal newspaper Bar and Bench.

The petition pleaded that all State Quota Admissions be represented in a single State Merit List, with regards to all institutions situated in the NCT of Delhi; and this list also becomes the basis on which all common counseling and admissions are to be held.

The petition pointed out to previous decisions in Gujarat and Punjab & Haryana Courts which have struck down striking down identical policies. Most important, of all the Supreme court strictures with regards to this, recently, have restricted institutional reservations to 25% of the total available seats.

Justice Rekha Palli, in whose court the matter will be hearing the matter again today and orally instructed the IP University Counsel to not fill any seats till after the hearing on the matter.
