Patna: Three private medical colleges' admission fee has been fixed by the Educational Fee Fixation Committee, appointed for the task and headed by Justice (retd) Akhilesh Chandra. The taking of any other fee or donation from the student could lead to punishment for the authorities, stated the State Health Minister, Mangal Panday on Saturday.

The three medical institutions whose fee has been fixed include, Naryanai Medical College (NMC)-Sasaram, Mata Gujri Medical College (MGMC)-Kishanganj and Katihar Medical College (KMC)-Katihar.

According to Minister Pandey, KMC admissions would have to pay Rs 8.38 lakh per annum, while NMC student admissions would be charged Rs 8.21 lakh per annum. This new fee changes would be implemented for the academic sessions 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21. While the fee structure for MGMC will be Rs. 8 lakh per annum, which is to be applicable for the new academic session of 2018-19 as reported by the
TOI
.

However, the new fee structure will not include transportation, hostel and mess charges.

Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said this would provide great relief to the students and free them from unnecessary financial burden.

“The private medical colleges will have no say in fee fixation and demanding extra money in the name of different heads. There will be transparency in financial matters,” said Pandey.

Principal Secretary, Health, Sanjay Kumar, who is member secretary of the committee, said quoting the committee’s decision, “The private medical colleges shall not charge either directly or indirectly any other amount over and above the amount fixed as fees.”

“If any other amount is charged under any head like donations, the same would amount to charging of capitation fee. Any deviation of this order will entail serious penal consequences,” he added
