Hyderabad: Over 350 teachers from different streams in Osmania University (OU) will go on an indefinite strike from Wednesday in protest against not implementing the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) for those who was appointed under it after September 1, 2004.

In a release here on Tuesday, Osmania University Teachers Association (OUTA) President B Satyanarayana alleged that the University is not providing pension to teachers.

The university should immediately roll back the existing 'LIC linked Contributory Pension and Gratuity Scheme' in which 8.33 percent of basic pay from employee is credited to LIC policy, he said in this scheme, there is no provision for the university contributing towards pension for the faculty.

The LIC scheme was introduced only in OU and JNTUH, whereas the remaining varsities in Telangana are implementing new pension scheme as per government orders, he pointed out.

As part of the agitation, OUTA has decided to abstain from duties including examination related works.
