Cuttack: The SCB Medical College and Hospital authorities have taken a decision to introduce electronic health records for patients to improve services of the hospital. The Administrative Officer, Pratap Mishra, said that the installation of the Wifi facility on campus, and its inauguration by the Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik was the beginning of electronic health records being introduced.

"We have already started the process to create the patients' electronic health records. As part of the process, the blueprint for the introduction of the e-hospital system will be finalized on January 8," Mr. Mishra added.

“In the first phase, we will take up the digitization of case records of patients along with networking of case records both at the outpatient units and indoor wards of different departments with the help of the high-speed Internet," he told the Telegraph.

According to sources, the optic fiber cable network laid on campus had made high-speed Internet connectivity easier.

Besides facilitation of e-hospital and electronic health records, the WiFi will provide the supporting technology for the administrative network as well, they informed. Students and teaching faculty will be able to access the latest medical journals online, they added.

The Chief Minister had also inaugurated a nursing college building, its hostel and an auditorium on campus during his visit.

The Rs. 8.83 crore central auditorium, with a seating capacity of 1,500, has been built in a two-story building. Meanwhile the seven-story Rs. 14.96 crore nursing hostel with 133 rooms will accommodate 400 inmates. The six-story nursing college building, on the other hand, has costed Rs 15.90 crore, official sources revealed to The Telegraph.
