BHUBANESWAR: The Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur district is likely to get into a restoration mode soon. The government run health hub is being developed into a super specialty hospital.

The various changes that the committee formed by the governing body of the institutions would consider to convert the hospital into a super specialty unit include:

  • Infrastructural changes

  • Revision of enhancement of undergraduate seats from 250 to 200

  • An adjunct centre of VIMSAR at sambhalpur

  • Restructuring of the pay structure of its employees

According to sources, the governing body of the institution, under the chairmanship of the chief secretary, would be pondering over improvements in the present infrastructure to meet higher standards in medical education.

"The committee will set up a sub-committee to invite proposals from stakeholders, study the proposals and submit their recommendations by December 15. The sub-committee will be headed by the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (North) with district Collector as a member,"stated an official.

Development of hostels at the District Headquarter's Hospital (DHH), Sambalpur, as an adjunct centre of VIMSAR, is also to be considered by the sub committee.

Efforts are also to be made to reformulate pay structures of the health facility and submit them to the finance department, so that something similar or comparable to autonomous institutions across the country can be worked out.

"A new pay structure may be adopted after careful observation of the recommendations of the sub-committee," the official added. This is being done to attract/invite the best skilled personnel to the institution and also retain the present talent within.
