Odisha: VIMSAR Junior Doctor Association protests
Odisha: VIMSAR (the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research) in Odisha has again drawn attention in the media over the matter of improving the infrastructure in the hospital.
This time around the Junior Doctor Association (JDA) of the medical college hospital has the reportedly gheraoed the chairman of the institute in consideration of their nine-fold demands to better the hospital infrastructure.
Their point of view is that they have been long demanding action from the Chairman on the issue; as a result of which it is now required to stage a protest.
In fact, they are also said to be questioning the Chairman for an exact reason on why the promises have not been met; after they had earlier staged a protest for the same issue. Following which they are reported to be very upset with the college authority and administration on its failure to deliver on the promises made by them. The protest by JDA is expected to start from April 1 until their demands are met with.
Some of the demands highlighted by the JDA include, installation of MRI services in the hospital at the earliest, delegation of power (both financial and administrative) to VIMSAR authority, new building for female medicine ward (alleged to be overcrowded), strengthening of in-premise security, uninterrupted power supply in labour room, operation theatres, SNCU, ICU, Medicine Ward, UG and PG hostels, and more.
As reported by a website, notably, around 450 doctors and surgeons of the Government Medical College in Sambalpur were on strike between January 12 till January 21 raising their nine-fold demand for better infrastructure in the hospital. The strike was withdrawn after the Government was given a deadline of January 31 to act upon their demands. The association then decided to wait till February 9 for fulfillment of their demands. Odisha Health and Family Welfare Secretary Arti Ahuja, Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak subsequently stepped into the issue, promising the demands would be fulfilled in coming weeks, but they have not been done so far.
