Odisha: Dr. SC Dash of KIMS honoured

Bhubaneshwar:The International Conference on 'Kidney Transplantation' in Kathmandu had the Former Prime Minister of Nepal, Hon’ble Shri K. P. Sharma Oli, felicitate Dr. Suresh Chandra Dash, Emeritus Professor, Medicine & Professor, Head of Nephrology Department, Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS), KIIT University. The conference hosted on 22nd September , 2016, in Kathmandu had eminent nephrologists, transplant surgeons from Australia & other countries participating. The conference was organized by Institute of Medical Sciences, Tribhuvan University, Nepal.


The country chose to honour the man for his long years of service in the field of Nephrology. Respected for his work Prof.Dash is an icon physician of Nepal. His journey to recognition and fame started with he setting up a Nephrology Unit, and the conduction of the first Hemodialysis by him at Bir Hospital, Kathmandu, in 1987; under Indo-Nepal Friendship Treaty.


Television honoured him with the “Nepal Gourav” award in 2007.


Prof Dash has had a distinguished career, for he is fondly called the 'kidney man' of the country by the medical fraternity, having successfully treated kidney cases and conducted kidney transplants of innumerable Nepalese during his stint with AIIMS, New Delhi. He has been an eminent visiting dignitary to many Conferences & CMEs hosted by the Nepal Nephrology Society, in the past.


Dr. Dash, currently the Emeritus Professor in Medicine and Professor & Head of Nephrology Department at KIMS, was earlier Director, KIMS & Pradyumna Bal Memorial Hospital. He has served at AIIMS, New Delhi for 31 years as Professor and HOD of Nephrology, where he trained innumerable MD, DM, DNB & Ph.D. students.


Having hosted several International Congresses, Prof. Dash was invited to several hospitals as visiting Professor in the UK. He has also conducted several lectures presentations in countries like USA, Japan and the UK.

He was sent to United Kingdom by the Government of India as a Sr. Commonwealth fellow in 1992. The latest feather in his cap being his appointment as Educational Ambassador of Nephrology by the International Society of Nephrology. This assignment is that of teaching faculty in various foreign countries.
