NRI quota not to exceed 15 percent in PG medical courses: Karnataka HC

Bengaluru: An Interim order by the High Court giving directions to the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) and the state government disallows the granting of more than 15% seats under regulation 9A of the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000 for NRI quota, for the academic year 2017-18.


A Justice H G Ramesh headed division bench also confines the NRI quota to the children of NRI’s or their wards reports


The High Court was responding to a petition filed by Dr Tariq Iqbal, a Bengaluru resident and a post graduate aspirant who claimed that both the KEA and state government have not provided 'NRI quota' in accordance with law in the matter of admission of students to postgraduate medical courses.


The petitioner contends that all close relatives of non-resident Indians are to come under the 'NRI quota'.
