Compulsory bond now changed to if required

Hyderabad: The government while taking a decision to scrap one-year mandatory government service for postgraduate medical students, has initiated another condition involving them, that of submitting a bond of Rs 20 lakh for PG course and Rs 10 lakh for PG-Diploma, during the forthcoming counseling. They are also supposed to sign an undertaking that if required they shall also serve the government for a period of one year. On Wednesday orders to this effect were issued by the government, which shall be applicable for all non-service candidates from Telangana and other states as well.

Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao on March 8, announced that the one-year service condition is removed. The change was tabled in the Telangana Medical Practitioners Registration (Amendment) Bill,2018, on March 20 in the assembly.

An order, however, was issued on Wednesday stating that the bond should be accompanied by an undertaking that ‘they shall serve the Government of Telangana if required for a period of one year’.

“If services are needed, they have to work for one year for the government,” said Director of Medical Education, Dr K Ramesh Reddy to the TNIE, adding that students can register their PG degrees after the course. According to officials, the rule will help TS PG aspirants

The condition of bond and undertaking will help domiciled youngsters to pursue their PG medical courses said Officials from the Health Department and representatives of the Telangana Junior Doctors Association (JUDA)

President of T-JUDAs Dr. P Vijayender Goud says officials of the health department had stated that other States were asking for bonds ranging up to Rs30 lakh and government service too. According to Mr. Goud, if the Telangana government does not make bond and conditional government service mandatory, it was bound to become the first choice of students from outside the state. “These conditions will help PG aspirants from TS,” Dr. Vijayender told the New Indian Express.

Meanwhile, the state health Department clarified that registration of Postgraduate degrees, by students could be done immediately, after three years, irrespective of whether the government asks them to serve for a year or not.

Earlier, the case was that a student could only register his degree on completion of the one-year government service after three years of the postgraduate degree.
