New Medical College awaits MCI permission to start admission process for 100 MBBS aspirants
Daltonganj: A month after its inauguration by honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the almost built Palamu Medical College is awaiting the Medical Council of India (MCI) to grant the Letter of Permission (LoP) so as to commence the admission process for 100 MBBS aspirants.
The foundation stone of the medical college along with Dumka and Hazaribagh medical colleges were laid by PM Modi in the year 2017.
Now, with the completion of the construction of Palamu institute just a couple months away, the medical college’s administration is awaiting for MCI’s permission to begin the MBBS admission process.

The left wing of the medical college building would be ready for classes by the end of July 2019. The two medical college campus hostel buildings, one for boys and the other one for girls, are also near completion.
Speaking to TOI, Dr Harbansh K Singh, Principal, Palamu institute; who is additionally serving as medical superintendent at Patliputra Medical College and Hospital in Dhanbad, stated, “Unless we receive the LoP, admissions can’t begin in any new medical college.”
The Principal further informed that in the first year, only four subjects will be taught which include community medicine, anatomy, physiology and biochemistry.
State health secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni had earlier stated to the media that they have sorted out all the technical issues to facilitate the commencement of the admission process in each of the new medical college as soon as they get approval from the apex medical council.
To activate each of the department of biochemistry, pathology and anatomy, there is a requirement of one Professor, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor and two tutors each. All these posts had been created; Kulkarni had informed TOI in February.
The Jharkhand government had also published advertisements to fill up vacancies in the medical college however it will take some more time to finalise appointments as the model code of conduct is in force, informed Dr Singh adding,
“We hope that after the elections are over, efforts to make this college operational will gain pace.”
Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that state government, in its endeavour to improve the administrations at government-run medical colleges, had addressed the issue of obsolete service rules for the appointment and promotion of medical teachers.
Following the recommendation made by the Medical Council of India, the state government has issued a notification stating that only the senior-most and the second senior-most Professors will be eligible for the post of Principal and Hospital Superintendent of medical colleges for a period of three years.
