New Delhi: DU Medical students demand one state one counselling

New Delhi: The DU versus IP war continued in the capital for yet another day, with medical students of MAMC, LHMC as well as UCMS, now taking to the streets opposing the central government's cancellation of the order transferring PGIMER as well as VMMC to Delhi University.

The battle of the students began with the proposal of transfer of medical colleges of Safdarjung Hospital and RML Hospital from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University to Delhi University. This was met with strong opposition from the students of IP university, who stood at a strong loss of losing an advantage of the state quota for delhi students that came with the affiliation of IP university, if the said transfer took place.

With the central government now announcing withdrawal of the proposals now medical students of Delhi University have taken to the streets of the capital showing their opposition to the said decision of the central government.


Undergraduate students with Delhi university medical colleges reportedly took out a peaceful march from Connaught place to Jantar Mantar, today.


"Both DU medicos as well as IP medicos constitute the total strength of medical students in Delhi.Seats should be based on merit and not on university. We demand One State One Counselling in Delhi", said Mano subhashini, Vice President, LHMC Students Union.


The students are also planning to knock on the doors of the Delhi High Court in this regard.
