NEET Results: Kalpana Kumari does Bihar Proud with 99.99 percentile score
The state of Bihar has made India proud as one of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) topper for the year 2018 Kalpana Kumari hails from Sheohar in it and has scored a percentile score of 99.99. Kalpana is only entry from Bihar to become one of the 50 top scorers of the country. The result which was declared on Monday. The exam was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on May 6 for admission to MBBS and BDS courses in colleges run with the approval of the Medical Council of India and the Dental Council of India.
Her amazing scores runs as 691 out of a total of 720. This includes a perfect 360 in biology (botany and zoology), 171/180 in physics and 160/180 in chemistry. Having appeared for the Class XII exam conducted by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) this year from YKJM College at Sheohar this 17-year-old girl 's results are likely to be declared on June 6. A class 10 pass out from Navodaya Vidyalaya this amazing girl then cleared the exam with a 10 CGPA in 2016.
. "I worked hard and studied more than 13 hours a day for my Class XII and NEET exams. I didn't expect that I will be the topper. I also appeared for AIIMS MBBS entrance exam and waiting for the results. If I didn't qualify that exam, I want to take admission in Maulana Azad Medical College on my NEET score," she told TOI on being declared the only topper from the state.
"I have still not considered the specialty I want to pursue after my MBBS," said Kalpana and added: "I'm also expecting a good mark in Class XII exam."
Born into an educationist family she is the daughter of Rakesh Mishra (a lecturer at district institute of education and training, Sitamarhi). Her mother Mamta Kumari (a teacher in Sheohar government school) elated over their daughter's success said, "I knew she would qualify the exam, but she has proved her mettle by grabbing the top rank. After her Class XII exam, she had moved to Delhi to prepare for the medical exam. We both are proud of her. She will decide about her career,"
Kalpana's elder sister Bharti Kumari is a qualified engineer from the National Institute of Technology, Patna; and her elder brother Pranay Pratap is a BTech fourth-year student at IIT, Guwahati.
NEET records show 37,899 out of 63,003 candidates from Bihar to have qualified the exam. The cutoff for admissions in MBBS and BDS courses is this year is lower than what it was last year.
With 119 being the cut off for the general category, The qualifying scores range from 119 to 691 while the cutoff for SC, ST and OBC candidates is 96 to118. For candidates with disabilities in the general category, the cutoff is 107 to 118. For candidates with disabilities in the SC, ST and OBC categories, the cutoff is 96 to 106.
