"Step by step, brick by brick, the edifice of India’s legislature is being destroyed by judiciary

This was the response of Union Finance Minster, Shri Arun Jaitley responding to the recent Supreme Court judgement regarding holding NEET this year.

The voice of the minister was echoed by other members of the Parliament as all parties seemed to have gathered together to oppose the judgment

Disconcerted by the recent decision of the Supreme court directing that all admissions to medical colleges in the country shall be through common Entrance Exam ( NEET), the government today held a long meeting/consultation with respective state governments, rumoured to be the discussion of the possibility to bring out an ordinance to bypass the NEET issue. Health Ministers and representatives of 18 states and Union Territories attended the meeting.

After the meeting held at AIIMS today, the union health minister, Shri JP Nadda highlighted that today’s consultations saw the discussion of the problems the state governments were facing over the common medical entrance test. "We will need more discussions with the state governments on the NEET issue. Today we had discussions on language, syllabus and state governments' concerns over state medical entrance examinations. We have to solve all the problems of the states before NEET is conducted across the country," Nadda said.

It is reported that At the meeting, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain came out in full support of the Supreme Court order and requested the Centre to implement it at the earliest to bring in reform.

The Health Minister further said the Supreme Court will be apprised about the state governments' apprehensions on NEET only after arriving at a conclusion. "Met Health Ministers of States today. They shared their views on holding NEET this year. I have noted their many concerns about NEET this year. Will soon formulate further course of action," Nadda later tweeted.

"We will need more discussions with the state governments on the NEET issue,” the minister added
