Hyderabad: The Health Ministry's decision to conduct NEET in Telugu hasn't eased problems for medical aspirants of the state, who are now faced with the hurdle of shortage of study material and difference of syllabus between the NCERT and the state run institutions.

Though majority of student preference continues to be "English"- as the medium for NEET, in the two regions, the state run school aspirants of medicine may prefer Telugu over English, reveal experts. However, there is a paucity of textbooks for NEET in Telugu.

"Before taking such a decision, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) should have made sure that resources are available to those willing to appear for NEET in regional languages. Shortage of textbooks in Telugu will be a disability for medical aspirants," said Lax mi Narasimha Rao, President of Private Medical and Dental College Managements Association, Telangana.

Books written by the Telegu Akademi are to be heavily depended upon by students with regional language preference. To make matters worse, the NCERT and state run school syllabus differences act as the other major drawback for state run school medical aspirants.

"Apart from lack of resources, there is a vast difference between NCERT syllabus recommended for NEET and the state-board syllabus. Lack of question papers and mock tests in Telugu will be another handicap for students studying in government junior colleges in various districts of Telangana. Therefore, it is advisable for students to appear in English medium even if they are comfortable in Telugu," advised Dheeraj Kumar Misra, Regional Director (operations), South Zone, Aakash Educational Services Pvt. Ltd in conversation with the TOI.
