NEET Hearing DAY 2 : Key Highlights
New Delhi: The Supreme Court hearing on NEET, did not end well in favour of private medical colleges as the Apex Court was found categorically stating that Private Medical Colleges, deemed universities and associations will not be allowed to hold their own separate undergraduate medical and dental entrance exams and the entrances to such institutions will take place through NEET only. The court seemed to have prima facie agreed with the MCI for allowing State governments to hold their own exams, Although no order has yet been filed to this effect.
“We have already said this. One: There shall be NEET. Two: No private colleges or associations will be permitted to have their own exams. Three: States will be allowed to conduct their exams after we consider what the Solicitor-General has to say on it on Monday,” Justice Dave said categorically at the end of the half-hour hearing reports the Hindu.
In reaching the observations today, Bench consisting of Justice Anil R Dave, Shiva Kirti Singh and Adarsh Kumar Goel took into account MCI's suggestions. On behalf of MCI, Adv Vikas Singh has submitted three suggestions
a) Only state govt. college can be kept outside NEET exam
b) Banks will consider giving loans to poor students without any collateral security
c) Students who have given May 1st exam should not be allowed to give July exam for NEET
On behalf of the government, ASG Ranjit Kumar said that the Central health officials are meeting with their counterparts in several States this weekend to iron out several issues linked to having NEET and State exams side by side. “Give us some time. We are having meetings in the next two days with the States. They want to resolve this issue,” Mr. Kumar submitted. On the issue of Students being allowed to re-appear on July 24 NEET, the government said it would by May 10 respond to a query by the court on whether students who appeared for NEET-1 on May 1 should be given a second chance in the second phase on July 24.

Court has directed that matter would be now heard on Monday to decide the fate of State government colleges holding their separate exams or not.
