NEET 2019 Result Updates: Analysis, Cut-offs, Scores, Toppers

The results of the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test for MBBS and BDS courses for this year, NEET 2019 were declared yesterday, with over 7,97,042 candidates qualifying in it from 14,10,755 who appeared for the exam.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam conducting body for NEET this year held the entrance exam throughout the country on 05 May, 2019 and on 20 May, 2019 for Cyclone Fani hit Odisha and Karnataka candidates who couldn't appear for the examination on time due to the train delay for admission to MBBS/BDS Courses in India in Medical/Dental Colleges.

The NEET was conducted across 2,546 centres in 154 cities. The exam was held in 11 languages. As many as 1,28,000 invigilators and over 6,000 NTA representatives and observers were involved in conducting the test.

Of the 6,30,283 male candidates who took the exam, 3,51,278 cleared it, while of the 7,80,467 female candidates, 4,45,761 qualified. Of the five transgender candidates who appeared in the exam, three cleared it. A total of 15,19,375 candidates had registered for the exam, but 1,08,015 did not appear for it.

NEET 2019 Cutoff Percentile

Percentile stands for a number where a certain percentage of scores fall below that specific number. Hence, it relies on the candidates' performance when compared to the performance of others. For example, if the NEET Cut off is 50^th percentile for particular category candidates, a candidate is required to score more than 50% of candidates belonging to that category.

Candidates having scored just 107 out of total 720 or less than 15 per cent in the reserved categories were declared as 'pass', while for General category candidates, the cut-off mark stood at 134, which is less than 19 per cent.

As per the policy adopted since 2016, students in general category are required to obtain marks equal to or more than the 50th percentile in order to be declared eligible while all in the 40th or more percentile in reserved categories are declared eligible.

The cut-off score for qualifying in the open category jumped by 15 marks, which means admissions to the over 1 lakh medical and dental seats in the country are expected to get tougher this academic year. Last year, students scoring 119 and above were eligible for medical admissions, this year the cut-off is 134 for students who have scored 50 percentile or more.

NEET 2019 Toppers

Rajasthan's Nalin Khandelwal has topped the NEET 2019 exam nationwide. He scored 701 marks out of 720 to top the exam.

Delhi's Bhavik Bansal and Akshat Kaushik from Uttar Pradesh secured the second and the third positions respectively. Both Bansal and Kaushik scored 700 marks, but the former was ranked second for securing more marks in biology than the latter.

Haryana's Swastik Bhatia bagged the fourth rank by scoring 696 marks, while Anant Jain from Uttar Pradesh scored 695 marks.

Telangana's Madhuri Reddy G emerged as the topper among girls by securing an all-India rank of seven. She scored 695 marks out of 720.

Rajasthan's Bheraram topped among the differently-abled male candidates by scoring 604 marks. Sabhyata Singh Kushwaha from Uttar Pradesh topped among the differently-abled female candidates by scoring 610 marks.

Delhi had the highest percentage of candidates clearing the exam at 74.92, followed by Haryana (73.41) and Chandigarh (73.24). Nagaland had the lowest pass percentage of 29.34. Nine students from Delhi are among the top 50 scorers of NEET 2019, with 74.92 per cent candidates from the national capital clearing the exam.

Odisha, where the NEET 2019 was postponed due to Cyclone Fani, saw 59.44 per cent of the students clearing the exam, a minor decline from last year.
