NEET 2019 Cancelled in Odisha due to Cyclone Fani

New Delhi: The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, NEET 2019 has been postponed in the state Odisha due to cyclone 'Fani'.


The confirmation to this effect was recently issued on the official website of the National Testing Agency (NTA), the exam conducting body in charge of the exam.


Through a recent notification, NTA informed about the Rescheduling the Date of the NEET (UG) 2019 Examination in Odisha, the notice along with the original website of NTA states:



On the request of the State Government of Odisha in the wake of Fani Cyclone, the NEET (UG) - 2019 Examination, which was scheduled to be held on 05.05.2019 (Sunday), has been postponed only for the Candidates having Examination Centres in Odisha until further notice.

The new date for these candidates will be announced soon.

Inconvenience caused is regretted.


The notice further advises that the students are requested to keep visiting the original website of NTA for more Notices/Corrigendum/Addendum/Updates etc.


Cyclone Fani besides creating destruction in the state property has brought the standstill to the entire functioning of the area. Recently, AIIMS has also issued a notice informing about the postponement of AIIMS PG 2019 entrance exam at AIIMS Bhubaneswar that was scheduled for May 5 too.


According to sources, a part of the roof of a building at AIIMS Bhubaneswar was also ripped off in the cyclonic storm, but all students, staff and patients were learnt to be safe.


The state administration had evacuated nearly 11 lakh people two days ahead of the cyclone from about 10,000 villages and 52 urban agglomerations in probably the largest evacuation exercise at the time of a natural calamity in the country.


After the landfall, the system is passing through Khurda, Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore before it would enter West Bengal, Sethi said, adding that Bhubaneswar was likely to be hit by the high-velocity wind of around 140 kmph.
