National Institute of Speech and Hearing to accept NEET for its BASLP programme

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) scores are now going to be the qualifying mark for entrance to the National Institute of Speech and Hearing to their Bachelor of Audiology and Speech Language Pathology BASLP program starting from the 2017-18 academic year. The rank list of candidates will be prepared on the basis of their NEET score.


NISH, an autonomous body under the Department of Social Justice, Government of Kerala, has been functioning since 1997 in Thiruvananthapuram. The institution works towards identifying, rehabilitating, and educating individuals with communication disorders. The institution has also been a first in initiating programs for the disabled, to improve the quality of their lives.


The NISH course prepares aspirants to work as audiologists and speech therapists.


Eligibility for candidates applying for BASLP admissions calls for a class 12 or equivalent certification from a government board, with a minimum of 50% marks. Candidates with disabilities (PwD) or belonging to the SC/ST category are eligible on the basis of their pass marks alone.


The applicant /candidate should have studied physics, chemistry, biology with an optional of mathematics / computer science / statistics / electronics / psychology. Admissions to this course begins from the last week of May, reports the Indian Express.


The Rehabilitation Council of India(RCI), has accredited NISH to be an "Excellent Institution", which has been running the BASLP course since 2002. The course has the approval of the RCI and prepares individuals for careers as audiologists and speech therapists.
