Nashik: Admission process begins for UG medical courses

Maharashtra: Nashik is reported to have started the admissions for UG medical courses for 2016-17 academic year. Overall, admissions have started for MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, nursing and other health science courses.

Students seeking admission have started by visiting the Sassoon General Hospital in Pune. This is where the students are attending counselling sessions and submitting their preference forms. In this initial round of counseling, students among the 850 candidates from the state merit list have started appearing at their shortlisted centres.

S D Gosavi, senior professor at MVPS Medical College in his media statement implied that candidates are provided assistance for choosing their preference for course and medical institutes. Seats will be allotted centrally later on MHCET 2016 basis. Also, the merit list finalized and preference of the students will be taken into consideration.

However, during the time for going to counselling that Dhule Government Medical College is yet to get the MCI approval on 50 additional seats. So students were reported to be confused if they should opt for this medical college seats or not. According to a recent TOI report, Union Health Minister J P Nadda has granted an approval in the increase of seats from 50 to 100 now in GMC Dhule.

Similarly GMC Gondia was awaiting an MCI approval on 100 seats. It has now been granted approval by the Health Minister.

Dr Pravin Shingare, chief of Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER), told TOI that the minister made these announcements during a function at the Nanded college. "I inquired with the minister about the status of the Gondia college. Though DMER had included Gondia GMC in the list of colleges for admissions this year, the admissions were subject to MCI approval. The council had submitted to the high court at Nagpur on June 9 that it was considering the seats issues positively and told the DMER to submit the compliance report to MCI's 'overview committee'. Now after the health minister clearing the seats, there is no need for MCI's approval," he said.

"All the candidates concerned should note these facts before filling their preference form about these colleges," a written correspondence issued by Chandrashekhar V Oak, commissioner of the state CET cell, Mumbai, stated.
