Maharashtra: In order to get MCI recognition for the current academic session, the KEM’s GS Medical College has only one month to rectify the deficiencies pointed out by the council- during its recent visit for inspection.

A research library and examinations halls are two major highlights by MCI- after the inspection team reportedly spend two days at the college premise.

The Dean of the GS medical college, Dr Supe has said that though the work has already started for due rectifications, however, a time of one month may not be just enough.

A senior doctor on the other hand had implied that the same deficits were pointed out during the last-year’s MCI inspection visit also. Still no action has been taken as yet.

The notice issued to the hospital says: "The council has decided not to recommend continuance of recognition of MBBS degree granted by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nasik, in respect of students being trained at Seth GS Medical College, Mumbai." A copy of the notice is with

Dr Supe in addition has implied that the college administration has speeded up work on infrastructural deficiencies. Since it is a 90-years old college, there are strict heritage norms which apply to the buildings-sometimes posing severe restrictions on our expansion. The college is also in the process of securing permissions to build three new towers inside the campus. He also stressed on the point that at present there is no shortage of lecturers at the college; but they need more resident doctors.
