Mumbai: An aspiring doctor, a 21-year-old MBBS student from Smt Kashibai Navale Medical College has committed suicide by hanging himself at his residence in Pune.

The medico was known to be a swimming champ who won 7 gold medals on the national level and several medals with the state level as well.

Informing about the unfortunate incident, the police officials stated that the MBBS medico hanged himself from the ceiling in his house on May 31st afternoon when his parents were away. No suicide note was found at the spot.

The police are suspecting a personal reason behind the extreme step. The incident came to light when the student's father tried to contact his son from office, but his calls went unanswered.

According to recent media accounts, the deceased was pursuing 2nd year in MBBS from Smt Kashibai Navale Medical College and General Hospital. Thereafter, the medico's mother had gone out of the house for some work and his father was in the office from where he called the medico. When he did not answer them or return the calls, his father decided to visit home.

"The MBBS student did not open the door despite his father knocking on it several times. His father then checked and found his son hanging. He called neighbours and the police around 2.30pm," a police officer informed TOI.

"We have not found any suicide note and are probing the case. Our team is inspecting his social media accounts and trying to talk to his friends to get some answers," Senior Inspector informed Mid Day.

The police have registered a case of accidental death.

Meanwhile, shocked by the news that his apprentice committed suicide, the deceased medico's swim Coach Erande stated to Mirror, "It is difficult to believe that a physically and mentally strong person like him chose to end his life, no matter what the reason must be," he said.
