Bhopal:The Medical Education Department has decided to move the Supreme Court, seeking more time to complete the admission process, in the state. The court will be moved on Oct 13 for the same. The decision to extend comes in the face of irregularities that have surfaced due to complaints made by parents about medical and dental colleges asking for Rs. 5 lac over and above the fee fixed, by the Admission Fees Regulation Committee (AFRC).

If the Supreme Court agrees to giving the extension, the DME plans to complete the counselling by this month. On the basis of the complaints made by parents the education body has already issued a strict warning, that if institutional authorities are found wanting in adhering to orders, strict action would be taken against them.

Show cause notices seeking explanation within a week’s time have also been issued by the AFRC to collegesat Indore and Ujjain, against whom parental complaints have been received.

It is believed that the medical education department is yet to take action, against colleges that have cancelled allotment letters of students, on the plea that they fall short of requisite requirements. It has been observed, that though the DME issued orders to nodal officers, not to reject admissions on the basis of documentation being incomplete, the authorities have turned a deaf ear to the instruction.

It is believed parents of over 30 students approached the GMC counselling officers of private medical and dental colleges, demanding an additional Rs. 5 lac-as admission money. The complaints were made as most parents can ill afford to pay such high fees and are dependent on loans for payments. Meanwhile, parents of some students have have been found demanding cancellation of counselling and starting of the same afresh. Director,Medical Education, DR. GS Patel has confirmed the news of colleges asking for an extra Rs. 5 lac above the fixed fee and has stated that the DME will be submitting a counselling report to the Supreme Court.
