Bhopal:The Medical Council of India, the state government and the Department of Medical Education have decided to come together on keeping a hawk’s eye on the day to day functioning of government and private medical colleges. A new set of monitoring guidelines have been released to government and private medical colleges already, by the MCI. The new guidelines have been issued in the eventuality of the medical colleges failing to update their websites, on student information.

The State government and the MCI will henceforth, be monitoring the workings of both state and private medical colleges and student performance, on a monthly basis. This is being done to check deviation. Medical Colleges on their part, have found it difficult to update their websites before the designated MCI deadline.

The MCI’s freshly issued guideline to medical colleges, both private and government states that colleges are to now update their website in the first week of every month. The websites are to project data of every undergraduate; incorporating their score in the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET).This is being done due to complaints received by the MCI, on existing admission irregularities in some colleges. The MCI is now insisting that besides student attendance, student performance also be put up on the website. The other student information to be incorporated on the college website includes their time, punctuality at college, regularity, hands-on-training, demonstration, research work etc.

However, the Medical Council of India(MCI), will have to take the prior approval of the Supreme Court appointed Oversight Committee, comprising of former Chief Justice of India, R M Lodha, noted liver super specialty and Director of Institute of Liver and Billary Science, Dr Shiv Sareen and former CAG, Vinod Rai. This comes in the face of the Supreme court discovering various irregularities in admissions and personal data of students and coming up with a directive, that all student information, pertaining to both person and admissions be put on college websites.

The MCI has also issued a directive to colleges to keep their websites updated at all times, inclusive of student feedback on their faculties.

Dr G S Patel, Director, Medical Education, revealed that the MCI had mailed its new guidelines to all medical colleges, asking them to keep their website updated in accordance with the MCI guidelines. “But we will also monitor it whether they are following the MCI guidelines. We will soon send a letter to all medical colleges,” he added.
