Most Unfortunate: 3 MBBS students dead, 1 injured as KIMS Medico's Car Collides with truck
Bengaluru: In an unfortunate mishap, three MBBS students died after the car, they were travelling in, collided with a truck loaded with iron rods which pierced through them. Another MBBS student, who was driving the car, sustained major injuries and is currently unconscious.
According to a statement made by the police officials, the three deceased have been identified as second-year MBBS students of Kempegowda Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Bengaluru, Prajwal M J (20) hailing from Tumakuru, Vishal Choudhary (20) of Dodda Belavangala, and Bhushan (21) from Jigani. They were killed on the spot after they were impaled by iron rods in the truck. Meanwhile, the injured, Kumar Raj is a final-year MBBS student of the same college.
The accident took place at around 2 am on 5th September on Nelamangala highway, where the truck was parked on the side of the road due to technical trouble, reportedly without its taillights on.
Preliminary investigations initiated by the police revealed that the third year student, Raj was driving his car to visit his family in Venkatagiri Kote. "The three other boys joined him, saying they wanted to visit his hometown and see places nearby," police informed TOI.
During their trip around 1.55 am, Raj failed to notice the truck parked by the roadside with its taillights were off, near Sanna Amanikere railway gate junction. Consequently, the car smashed into the truck.
The impact of the crash was such that one of the deceased youth was decapitated and his body flung outside the vehicle, reports TNIE. The fourth student suffered major injuries.
"The car collided into the rear side of the truck with the iron rods protruding out it. It pierced the occupants, and three boys were killed on the spot," said the police.
Passersby alerted the area traffic police, who rushed to the spot and pulled out the three bodies and the injured medico, Raj out of the crushed car. He was later admitted to the hospital.
By then, the truck driver and his assistant abandoned their vehicle and fled the scene.
The Devanahalli traffic police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving causing accidental death and booked both the truck driver and Raj culpable for the accident. "We have booked both the drivers for criminal negligence leading to the death of three students," police officer confirmed.
In addition, the police have registered a case of negligence under Section 337 and 338 of IPC against the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) as there were no street lights, a senior police officer confirmed to The News Minute.
