More than Six Thousand medical aspirants clear NEET

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the result of National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET), in which 6,11,539 students have qualified and will be able to take admission into medical institutions in the country.


Among all, Punjab's Navdeep Singh topped the test by securing 697 marks out of 700. The second and third ranks have been bagged by Madhya Pradesh's Archit Gupta and Manish Mulchandani, respectively.


The examination was held on May 7, a total of 11,38,890 students appeared in the medical test out of which 6,11,539 students cleared it.Gender wise, out of 4,97,043 male students who appeared for the test, 2,66,221 qualified it.


However, the female aspirants outnumbered boys in qualifying the test.Eight students from transgender community also appeared, out of which five could clear it. Out of 613 students from foreign origin and 1,522 from Non-Resident Indian category, 245 and 1,106 could crack the exam, respectively.


Forty seven and 321 aspirants from Person of Indian origin (PIO) and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) category also cracked the examination.


According to the NEET data, 70.58 per cent increase has been recorded from NEET-I, 2016 and 139.37 per cent increase from NEET-II, 2016.


This year, out of 65,000 MBBS and 25,000 BDS seats, 15 per cent seats are reserved for the All India Counselling, while the rest 85 per cent seats would be filled through State Counselling, which will be conducted by the respective state governments. Since the CBSE NEET results are out now, the admission for the medical courses in the country - BDS and MBBS, will start soon.
