MH-CET conducted as per schedule-4 lakh aspirants appear for the exam
Maharashtra: Supreme Court’s verdict is yet to come on state medical admissions through CET; still, the state went ahead with its schedule of MH-CET.
The state government’s review petition is pending for hearing in the apex court. However, the uncertain validity of the exam did not stop almost 4 lakh students to take the exam.
In its review petition, supported by a writ petition from the students, the state government is seeking an exemption from NEET. It seeks implementation of NEET in the state only from 2018. The verdict is yet to come from SC.
Going by the sheer number of students who have appeared for the exam, it seems that both students and their parents are optimistic of a decision in their favor soon.
Akshata Masali, who could not answer the All India Pre-Medical Test (AIPMT), renamed NEET Phase I, told HT, “I had prepared for the AIPMT, but was not allowed to appear for the test on Sunday, as I reached late. I hope Thursday’s CET will be considered for admissions.”
Going by the implied details in the media report, it does seem that both students and parents are anxious over the judgment to be delivered. Also, there are students who have appeared for NEET Phase 1, as well as the MH-CET to secure their medical admissions.
In addition, there are 13,000 students from the Kohlapur district who appeared for MH-CET.
The district collectorate officials implied that the exam was conducted without any hassle across the 34 centres in the city. This was achieved after a deployment of 1,200 officials ensuring smooth conduct o the exam. In the MH-CET, there are about 1.4 lakh medical aspirants and the remaining 2.7 lakh are either for engineering or both.
While a TOI report implied that a score of 170 and above will be good for a student to grab a seat in a government medical college.
Nikita, a student of Wilson College, told Express news reporter that, “The physics portion of the paper was tedious. Questions were not tough but took a lot of time in solving.” Another aspirant found the biology paper tricky, “with at least 20 out of100 questions difficult to attempt”.
In addition, besides asking for exemption from NEET, the state government is also demanding that students who appeared for NEET-1 should be allowed to reappear for the test on July 24. The NEET-2 is to be conducted on July 24.
