MGM Medical College Dean cancels Faculty deputation to Khandwa Medical College after Professor threatens suicide

Indore: Dr. Ramsharan Rajkwar, a senior surgeon's threatening note stating an intent to commit suicide if not called back from deputation from Khandwa Medical College to MGM Medical College seems to have shaken the authorities. The deputation orders of nine doctors were canceled on Tuesday. The orders released by Khandwa Medical College, Dean stated clearly that the doctors who were sent on deputation on April 21 were relieved from their duties in Khandwa and were to be sent back to join MGM Medical College, Indore.

The names of the nine doctors sent on deputation to Khandwa include Dr Apoorva Pauranik, Dr Ramsharan Raikwar, Dr Amarjeet Singh Chhabra, Dr Manoj Gupta, Dr Sanjay Dubey, Dr Deepak Bansal, Dr Basant Kumar Nigwal, Dr Monica Verma and Dr Laxman Banodha, reports FPJ.

The above nine doctors had protested against the deputation orders expressing their inability to join Khandwa Medical College. However, they had gone to Khandwa on the assurance given by MGM Medical College, Dean, Dr Sharad Thora that they would be recalled within a period of three days.

When the recalling orders were delayed some of them took recourse to legal action, with one of them Professor Dr RS Raikwar threatening suicide. Dr. Raikwarwent took a step too far when he went public on his intention to take his life , by posting his intent on the WhatsApp group of medical teachers on late Sunday evening. In his post, he said Dr Thora would be responsible if he committed suicide. His threat seems to have worked."All the doctors have been relieved from Khandwa and they can join the college in Indore now," Dr Thora announced on Tuesday.

Earlier the senior surgeon's post on What App had run as: "Dean Dr Thora had promised us to revoke the deputation order in three days or he will leave his post. Now, 10 days have passed but no order has been released by Dr Thora yet. Now, we will have to take some action and Dr Thora will be responsible for it," He had then also requested the group members to take care of his children if anything happened to him, and mentioned to having participated in the Medical Council of India's inspection as per the dean's instruction.

Some of the faculty on reading his message had made efforts to dissuade him from taking the extreme step after reading his post, assuring him that they would take the matter up with Dr Thora immediately.

President of Madhya Pradesh Medical Teachers' Association Dr Poonam Mathur revealed to the daily, "I called him immediately after reading the message and assured him to talk to the dean. Medical Teachers' Association supports doctors as their deputation was done without their consent."

Dr Mathur had further informed that the Commissioner of Medical Education Department had given an assurance that a decision on the matter would be taken by Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Dr Sharad Thora had told the FPJ. that "the matter of deputation is pending with officials. We have asked them to take action in this regard."
