MGM Medical College approaches NHM to restore special Newborn unit

Indore: The National Health Mission has been approached by the MGM Medical College for redoing of the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) at MY Hospital, that was burnt down in a ward fire that broke out 2 weeks ago.


According to the college authorities, their request to the NHM has already received an approval. The department will be sending an engineer, in the coming week to get ready a construction estimate, revealed college Dean, Dr. Sharad Thora.


The engineer will submit medical equipment requirements destroyed in the fire on 23rd November, along with a civil works estimate.


"At the time of developing the unit in 2010-11, NHM had spent around Rs 70 lakh on the civil work and medical equipment. After the gap of around six years, the estimate is expected to go high," Dr. Thora said.


Twenty-eight warmers, Cardiopulmonary Excise Testing(CPET) machines, and three ventilators were destroyed in the incident, while 47 newborns, who were admitted to the ward, had a narrow escape in the incident reports TOI.
