Meerut: Two MBBS students, one Muslim male and a Hindu female studying at LLRM Medical College, were brutally thrashed recently by a mob of angered men associated with Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) after they got the news that the students were allegedly falling into love jihad.
After the incident, the duo was handed over to the police but no complaint by either of them was filed.
“The medical examination of both the boy and the girl was done though there has not been any complaint lodged so far,” said SP city Ranvijay Singh confirming that the duo was beaten up by some Hindu activists at the residence of the boy in Jagriti Vihar locality of Medical Thana area on the evening of 23rd September.
According to a recent report by The Statesmen, both are students of fourth year at the LLRM Medical College here and used to study together at the residence of the boy.
This came to the notice the VHP activists and soon after getting the news, they entered the house of the boy and thrashed the two badly. They were publicly insulted and later taken to the Medical College police station where they called media.
Later, the duo was handed over to the police claiming that they were engaging in love jihad. When asked the reason as to why the association took the extreme step, a member of VHP told the daily that they charged the boy of Love Jihad as that this was the bid to spoil the life of the girl.
The MBBS students sat for several hours at the police station. This matter later reached the senior officials and additional force was sent to control the situation.
However, no action has been taken against the mob, informing as to why, the SP told the daily, “An action could only be taken up if any complaint is lodged which so far has not been done by either the boy or the girl,” adding that the police, however, is analysing the video and trying to identify those involved in thrashing.
