Meerut Hospital inspected for 2 DNB seats

Meerut: To ascertain whether the Meerut-based Pyare Lal Sharma District Hospital (PL Sharma Hospital) has the facilities and infrastructure to conduct the Diploma of National Board (DNB) courses, the National Board of Examinations (NBE) recently inspected the medical institute.


The National Board of Examinations accredits the DNB course all over the country at present. To start these courses at their medical institute, the medical colleges and medical hospitals have to apply to the NBE for its recognition similar to the Medical Council of India for MBBS and PG Medical courses.


Accordingly, the PL Sharma Hospital had applied for 2 Post-Graduate (PG) DNB seats and for that the NBE recently paid a visit to the institute to review the hospital premises. The postgraduate course was set to begin in the hospital from June 2018.

“An inspection was conducted at the hospital to see whether the DNB can be started here or not. We have sought for two postgraduate seats here and made other facilities. The report is a confidential one and will be submitted to the state authorities – who in turn will give a final nod to the plan here,” Dr PK Bansal, Superintendent-In-Chief, PL Sharma district hospital confirmed to The Times of India.


Earlier, the hospital management had advertised for the posts of two senior resident doctors, who will be needed as a part of the staff apart from the existing doctors to teach the students on the two seats of DNB. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has also been signed with the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial (LLRM) Medical College so that if any requirement for equipment is needed, it can be taken from them, it was informed to the daily.

Diplomate of National Board (DNB) is the title awarded by the National Board of Examinations (NBE), an autonomous academic body under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India to candidates who successfully complete their postgraduate or postdoctoral medical education under it. People who completed an MD in their respective subjects are also eligible for appearing in the final DNB certification exam along with regular DNB trainees.
