PG Medical Students doing Bond service in Same institution: HC Quashes Government Order

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on recently, suspended the GO provision issued by the Andhra Pradesh government stating that PG medical students admitted under the management quota in private medical colleges would have to work for a year in the same institution, under the rural service scheme


The division bench judge was dealing with a case filed by Vittal Rao and others. The petitioners said they had joined the PG course in a private medical college under the management quota. The GO declaration said that that they had to work as senior residents in the hospital attached to the same college for one year. All in the guise of ‘rural service’.


They further stated that medical students not admitted under the convener quota were allotted an year’s service in government hospitals like PHC, & local area hospitals.


The Act and rules make rural service mandatory and also work in government hospitals.


The present GO is in violation of Act and rules they further stated.


The judge, responding to the petition thus suspended the condition that these students shall work in the same college for one year reports the Hindu.
