Medical Negligence discussed at Goa Medical College

Panaji: A continuing medical education program on the issue of medical negligence was recently conducted by the GMC’s Education Cell. Delivered by Dr. Pannag Kumar, lecturer, Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, GMC, the lecture saw him speak about unethical practices and acts that constitute medical negligence.


He elaborated upon the various sections of the Indian criminal law under which charges can be filed against a registered medical practitioner; courts and statutory bodies where such cases are tried or inquired into, Medical Council procedural inquiries consumer forum’s procedure for settlement of disputes.


He also discussed the Consumer Protection Act’s scope of coverage of the medical profession, to decide whether a given case is related to negligence or not, the scope of duties of a doctor and liabilities covering acts related to the medical profession reported TOI.
