Visakhapatnam: After facing embarrassment of epic proportions of missing out important medical colleges from the Counselling list of the State, the state government in a fire fighting mode has announced that names of various medical colleges from Telangana, missing from the Medical Counselling Committee’s (MCC) list, will be added to its database by June 23 and made available during the second phase of counselling

The absence of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana medical college names from the MMC(Medical Counselling Committee) website’s registration list, maintained by the National Information Center (NIC) and the Medical Council of India (MCI) has become a cause of concern for students

The prominent names missing from the list include names like Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad, Kakatiya Medical College, Warangal, RIMS, Adilabad, Government Medical College, Nizamabad, Government Medical College, Mahaboobnagar, and Government Medical College, Siddhipet and RIMS, Ongole (Prakasam) and Government Medical College, Ananthapur.
Students are apprehensive that this narrowing down of names on the list is bound to lessen
admission opportunities for them in good medical colleges that are part of the national pool. The aspirants are also alleged that the OBC quota is also reflecting a lesser number of seats.

According to official information, the all India pool has an MBBS seat strength of approximately 4,000. 222 of them are in government medical colleges and other prestigious institutions across the country. The MMC web-counselling site www.mcc.nic.in, however, was reflecting a mere 195 colleges. To make matters worse of the 47 government dental colleges, only 38 are displayed on the website. Aspirant anxiety reached new levels, as 800 MBBS seats in colleges across the country were not reflected on the "NEET web-counselling site.’

While it was called a technical glitch, anxious students and parents indeed suspected foully“We suspect foul play as MMC or MCI were not informed in advance about the non-listing of certain medical institutions including six from Telangana and two from AP. Is there any big conspiracy behind this? Who is responsible for this serious errors," said the father of a medical aspirant from Gajuwaka told the TNIE.

DME Telangana Dr K Ramesh Reddy categorically stated that it was a technical glitch

"The officials informed that the list of principals with contact details of Telangana were not included in their database and cited it as a reason for not sending passwords. We have submitted all the required details and MCC has updated its database. They will be sending passwords to all the colleges by June 23 and our colleges will be included in the second phase of counselling,” Reddy told TOI

“There is no need to panic. There won’t be any loss of seats and even those students who have opted for other colleges can shift to our colleges in the second phase,” Reddy added.
