New Delhi: Medical aspirants after having approached the apex judicial body on the issue of age limit(25)years and the attempts(3) for NEET, have now approached the Supreme Court for an extension of the National Eligibility Entrance Test(NEET), exam date. The reason for asking for the extension is the short time gap existing between the ending of the CBSE and UP board and the commencement of the NEET examination.

The group under the name “NEET UG 2017 Date Extension Supporters’ has in its petition filed in the court pointed out, that while the last examination for UP board is on April 21, those appearing for CBSE board have their last intermediate examination on April 29. Meanwhile, NEET is scheduled for May 7.

"For NEET, course from both classes XI and XII is part of the exam. When intermediate students are finishing so late in April, they will only get around 10 days for preparation of the class XI course which is really unfair," said Ghulam Nabi, an aspirant.

The aspirants also feel that the two months that they spent on the age limit issue which was recently done away with by the Supreme Court has also cost them their preparation time

"There is not enough time given between board exams and NEET, when the latter covers 100% of the medical seats. Earlier, students at least had the option of state medical entrances but now even that has been done away with," an aspirant told the TOI.
