Supreme Court has decided to conduct the NEET phase II as per its earlier schedule, on July 24. More importantly, students who have already appeared for the NEET phase-I will not be allowed to reappear for the NEET scheduled now.

Many anxious students have been left in the lurch as the debate continues, and amid the confusion, many students have ended up appearing for both NEET and state-level medical entrance test.

One example is the recently conducted MH-CET, which saw over 4 lakh aspirants appearing for the exam. The confusion only gets compounded by the fact that these students, and their parents are not yet aware which exam is really valid for admissions, as yet.

Also, students have raised their concerns in the past- about not being fully-prepared to handle the NEET pressure this academic year. As a result of which, the states may get exemption from NEET entrance test this year. This decision is expected to come on May 9, when SC announces its verdict on state medical entrance test examinations.

By not giving the students another chance, to appear for NEET phase II, is deemed to make the students more anxious; who might as well be waiting for another chance to crack it with right score in the difficult NEET exam.

TOI reported the court’s statement , "The issue with regard to those students, who had appeared or who are due to appear in examinations conducted by the states in accordance with their state laws, shall be decided after hearing the learned Solicitor General. Those students who had appeared at NEET Phase-I shall not be permitted to appear at NEET Phase-II but the students who could not appear at NEET Phase-I may appear at NEET Phase-II," it said.

MCI has also taken a stand in favour of the state medical entrance tests now, saying that state government be allowed to hold their own examination for this year, and be granted exemption this one year.

Express reports on the matter further implied that the states might be allowed to conduct their own exam for this year, as hinted by the bench of the Supreme Court in its oral observation.

GUJCET 2016 to be conducted on May 10

Addressing a press conference here state government spokesperson and Health Minister Nitin Patel said that the Gujarat Common Entrance Test or GUJCET exam would be held as per the schedule on May 10. It has been decided after the discussion with the chief minister and education minister.

In addition Patel implied that with 68,000 students expected to take the exam, we are hopeful that all of them will appear for it. We are also hopeful of the matter being sorted out with the apex court soon.
