Medical Admission fraud: Two racketeers at large after duping parents of Rs 80 lakhs

Pune: Two admission racketeers in Hyderabad are at large after duping people in the name of Bharati Vidyapeeth trust account. The account has been opened by them for collection of money from parents who were promised medical admissions for their wards in various colleges in the state of Maharashtra.

The Pune police on the basis of a few complaints received are out on a hunt for them.

There names according to the police are Rohit alias Kabir Sanjay Sharma and Suresh Singh. According to the Pune police, the two scammers have been collecting sums as large as Rs. 65 lac, for management quota admissions.

Following a complaint by a 49 year old business ma,n Ramakrishna Elapollu and two others from Hyderabad, the police started their efforts to trace the culprits. Indian Expres reports that there are other two complainants who were cheated of Rs. 20 lac each on September 10 and 13, 2016.

The modus operandi adopted by Rohit alias Kabir Sanjay Sharma and Suresh Singh was that they sent prospective parents bulk cell phone messages, claiming that they could help their wards get management quota admissions for Rs.65 lac. The messages carried their phone number.

“The complainants from Hyderabad contacted the suspects seeking admission for their children at Bharati Vidyapeeth’s medical college. The complainants came to Pune and held meetings with the suspects at places on the Airport Road in Viman Nagar area. The suspects opened bank account in the name of Bharati Vidyapeeth Trust at ICICI bank. They asked the complainants to deposit demand drafts of Rs 20 lakh each in the name of Bharati Vidyapeeth Trust while promising to secure a place for their children in medical college. However, after taking a total Rs 80 lakh, the suspects did not turn up,” said Khokle. The police are issuing alerts to people at large, asking them not to fall prey to admission racketeers of the sort.
