MCI one time Increase of PG Seats: Jammu and Kashmir eye around 300 seats

Kashmir: Mr Bali Bhagat, the State Minister for Health and Medical Education informed the Legislative Council on Thursday that the apex medical education regulator had informed the state authorities of the central government's decision to grant a one-time increase of seats in Clinical Courses. This is to be done under revised teacher-student ratio in the Medical Colleges.

Greater Kashmir reports that the Principal Secretary, Health and Medical Education Department has handed over the proposal of the State Government for a 133 PG seat increase in Government Medical Colleges, Srinagar and acquisition of another 107 PG Seats in GMC, Jammu.This is to be part of the one time increase of UG and PG seats in Government Medical Colleges of State, for the year 2018-19.

The minister also added that 64 PG seats in various disciplines had been asked for by SKIMS Medical College, Bemina as per the student ratio on the existing infrastructure.

The Minister said that in a meeting with Medical Council of India (MCI) authorities between 16—18 January 2018, regarding PG seat increase approval in broad specialities, the MCI has consented to PG seat increases in the Departments of Anaesthesia, Medicine, Surgery, Orthopaedics, ENT, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics and Psychiatrists.

'In this regard, the Principals of Government Medical Colleges, Srinagar and Jammu had submitted the proposals to MCI vide their letter dated 6-1-2018 and on 17th January 2018 and 16-1-2018 respectively," the Minister told Greater Kashmir.
