Cuttack: The Medical Council of India(MCI), has approved an MBBS seat hike to 250 at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. A meeting held in New Delhi saw the apex regulator give a nod to the increased 100 MBBS seats at the college.

The letter of approval mentioning the hike of a 100 seats is likely to be sent to the college authorities shortly. The seat approval came when the MCI visited the college for an inspection of infrastructure, last month.

The SCB authorities however, have yet to release a statement on the latest seat increase, as they are waiting for a formal notification in this regard, from the apex education regulator.

In 2013, the MBBS seats at SCB were raised to 250 from the earlier figure of a 150. A team of the Council, had visited the medical college in 2016, for infrastructural assessment for seat increase for the academic year 2017-18.

The official had on that occasion expressed discontentment over administrative capacities of staff. This was so as the administrative experience of the college superintendent was 8 years, which could lead to the college loosing 100 MBBS seats, reports Odisha Sun Times.
