Bhubaneshwar: Speculation has been set aside after Medical Council of India has granted permission to the newly-opened medical colleges at Balasore and Balangir to take in admissions for this academic year.

Director, Medical Education and Training (DMET), Sonamali Bag, made a revelation to this effect stating that on April 26, the MCI Executive Committee reviewed the feedback from its teams that assessed the infrastructure of the two colleges and consented to 100 MBBS students admissions in each of the new colleges.

There was, however, apprehension regarding admissions for the second batch at the Baripada Medical College this year since the MCI team has not visited the college after the inspection conducted last year, wherein it had pointed out certain deficiencies in its infrastructure.

Petroleum Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan had written to the Union Health Minister, J P Nadda last week requesting that the Council visit the college for an inspection so that admissions could be carried out for the second batch.

TOI reports that the two new medical colleges inspected on April 23, however, reflected absolute preparedness for admissions. The LOP by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare would not take time coming, the sources told the daily.

Meanwhile, the MCI has already given a nod to Koraput Medical College for the commencement of admission of its second batch.
