MCI LOP to Siddipet Medical College, 150 MBBS seat increase in Telangana

HYDERABAD: Telangana's MBBS intake will increase by 150 for the academic year 2018-19, as the Medical Council of India has consented to the establishment of Siddipet Medical College.


The MCI approval comes in the face of its Executive Committee considering the compliance verification assessment report (3rd April 2018), the previous assessment report (7th & 8th November, 2017) along with an undertaking of the Principal Secretary, Health, Medical & Family Welfare Department, Government of Telangana dated 12.04.2018 recommending the issuance of the letter of Permission to the Central Govt for the establishment of new medical college at Siddipet (Govt. Medical College, Siddipet) by Govt. of Telangana. The college granted an annual intake of 150 MBBS students, comes under Kaloji Narayan Rao University of Health Sciences, Warangal, Telangana u/s 10A of the IMC Act, 1956 for the academic year 2018-19.


The Management of Siddipet had been waiting for the Council's permission since 2016. With the establishment of a new medical college in Siddipet, the number of MBBS seats will increase from 3,300 to 3,450 reported the TOI.


The Telangana government will be investing an estimated Rs. 700 crore on this new sprawling 50-acre campus.


During the MCI's earlier assessment, the Executive Committee of the Council had observed that the institute had a faculty deficiency of 13.84 per, while its anatomy, biochemistry, physiology, demonstration rooms and pantry called for furnishings. Further, the college's student hostels, residential quarters, dean's office, common rooms for boys and girls, lecture theatres, and central library, were still under construction, in its list of shortcomings.


The MCI besides granting permission to Siddipet Medical College renewed 150 MBBS seats in Mahabubnagar Medical College and 100 seats in Nizamabad Medical College.
