MCI gives nod to Government Medical College Jammu for additional 50 MBBS seats
Jammu: The Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu has recently received the approval of the apex Medical Council of India (MCI) to add 50 MBBS seats to the existing 100 seats.
The Medical College was earlier awarded 100 MBBS seats and now through the current notification, MCI permitted to increase it to 150 seats based on 5-year continuous yearly inspection of the institution.
The GMC Jammu is affiliated to Jammu University. The increase in the MBBS seat intake was recognized under Section 11(2) of the IMC Act, 1956.

Overwhelmed with the seats recognition, the Principal of the Institution, Dr Sunanda Raina told the State Times that this could become possible due to the cooperation of all head of the departments, faculty members and residents in various inspections conducted by MCI.
She further added that the Principal Secretary to Government, H&ME Department J&K along with Director Finance and Planning wing of the Administrative Department remained instrumental in helping the institution to meet all deficiencies pointed time to time by the MCI.
The Medical Dialogues team had earlier reported that a new Medical College constructed by the state government in Baramullah district got the MCI nod for 100 MBBS seats for the academic year 2019-20.

The Union government has approved the construction of medical colleges in five districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Medical Dialogues had earlier reported that with the completion of the new medical colleges in Rajouri, Doda, Kathua, Anantnag and Baramulla, 500 MBBS students would be annually added to the overall capacity of the course in the state.
Anantnag's Medical college's construction will be completed by the next year.

The Union ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned five new medical colleges in the state at a cost of Rs 189 crore each — out of which Rs 139 crore is for civil works and Rs 50 crore for machinery and equipment.
