Kolkata: The Apex Education Regulator (MCI), after having given Midnapore Medical College(MMC), opportunity enough for submission of student documentation admitted to the 2016-17 academic session, has ordered debarment of 30 MBBS students in question.

The Council has ordered the college to issue discharge notices to the 30 students. The Executive Committee of the Council at the meeting waived aside Monitoring Sub Committee recommendations saying that the college had been given sufficient time for document submission, which had not been compiled to.

The decision of debarment was taken by the education regulator at a meeting held in Delhi.

MCI norms call for document submission of all students who have secured admission in the undergraduate medical course.

The documentation that is to be submitted of all students taken in by a college includes percentage/percentile of marks a medical candidate has secured in the entrance examination, and the marks the candidate had received in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and English in the XII standard examination.

A general candidate has to secure 50% marks in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), while the reserved category’s minimum pre-requisite marks are supposed to be 40% as per norms.

The Council debarment has left the affected students in a state of shock, as they have found it difficult to understand why their documentation was not submitted to the Council when asked for.

Allegations have been made that the college authorities did not submit the information to the Council despite instructions and started furnishing information related to the 2012 admissions instead. The Council has further demanded compliance within a week’s time of directives issued by it.

Those debarred students are anxious about the Council’s decision of debarment prevailing and the impact it would have on their future. He also wondered why the college had not submitted the documentation asked for by the college. The authorities, however, were not open to comment reports Millenium Post.
