MCI BoG grants retrospective recognition to Diploma in Cardiology at GSVM Medical College
Lucknow: The Board of Governors in supersession of the Medical Council of India (MCI) has granted retrospective recognition to Diploma in Cardiology by CSJM University's GSVM Medical College, Kanpur.
The retrospective recognition has been given to the batches admitted from 1974 to 1993 who had been trained at GSVM Medical College. The MCI BoG made the decision after perusing the letters written by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW) and viewing the representation filed by one Dr Rajesh Shrivastava seeking retrospective recognition to the concerned batches.
The medical council board had also mulled over the letter received from the Medical College's Principal informing that the Diploma in Cardiology course had been discontinued in 1991.
Considering the request made by the concerned authorities, the MCI BoG decided to recommend to the Central Government to give retrospective recognition to Diploma in Cardiology granted by CSJM University, Kanpur to batches admitted from 1974 to 1993 at GSVM Medical College for the course.

Shri Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Medical (GSVM) College was inaugurated on December 13, 1959, and is affiliated with Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj Kanpur University. The college is established in the city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh.The medical college is attached with Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital (LLR Hospital). The foundation stone of this hospital was laid on August 7, 1943.
The medical college offers MBBS and various PG Medical courses for MD, MS, SS students. This was the first medical college in the state established in independent India, forming a landmark in the annals of medical education in the state of Uttar Pradesh. It is one of the five medical colleges in India established under the second five-year plan.
