New Delhi: There is inadequacy prevailing in the admission process, this year, is becoming evident from the fact that the Medical Council is still waiting for information on 12,000 MBBS admissions from 97 colleges mandatory to be submitted by the medical institutions. The information is necessary to check compliance to the NEET 2017 counseling process as laid out.It is essential to submit this information to the Council to prevent cancellation of seats at any later stage of the study. Times now reports that the information has yet to come in despite several reminders by the Council.

The Medical Council of India mandates the check under its common admission process guidelines. The MCI recently cancelled a total of 778 MBBS seats in Puducherry based on irregularities complaints. All 778 are 2nd-year students of MBBS courses in various private colleges of the union territory.

President, Puducherry All Centac Students Parents Association, Thiru M Narayanassamy, stated that if the irregularities had been pointed out last year it would have saved the students a year. These students, the president stated, could have then had time to prepare for NEET 2017 and seek admissions in the right manner.

According to an MCI source, colleges admit students beyond their capacity and sometimes even after the admission process has been declared closed. For those whose details are submitted after the scheduled dates, admissions become a calamity. A total of 65,000 seats across 460 colleges were filled by the counseling conducted by MCI.

While the All India Quota seats were filled by the Medical Counseling Committee or MCC on the basis of the NEET 2017 scores, the state quota and private medical seats were filled by the respective state authorities based on State-wise merit list prepared on the basis of the NEET 2017 scores.

August 31 was set as the last date for counselling for Haryana and Punjab. However, due to curfew conditions, Supreme Court gave an extension till September 14. Presently the SC has refused to extend the extension beyond the assigned date for counseling for undergraduate medical, postgraduate medical and super-specialty seats reports Times Now.
