MCI approves private medical college in Rajasthan

Rajasthan: MCI has recently given its nod to a private medical college in Rajasthan. The decision is likely to change the complexion of medical courses offered in the state, by adding more medical seats on offer.


The new medical college will be set up at Jaipur National University Institute for Medical Sciences and Research Centre. It also holds the distinction of being the only college in the state to received permission from MCI this year.


Further action by MCI has been reported to increase the yearly MBBS seats in the state by 150 for 2016-17. The MCI has also given its recommendation to the Centre for giving permission for a new medical college in Jagatpura.


Rajasthan scores a point among the 14 medical institutes given permission by the MCI in India for this year. It is further reported that the ministry of health and family welfare is now seeking documents from the Jaipur National University (JNU) regarding details of infrastructural facilities. This includes details of teaching and non-teaching staff, buildings, equipment, as required by MCI standards.


Meanwhile, a request proposal to increase the Post Graduation seats in Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Medical College has been recently dispatched to the centre by the city’s medical education department . The MCI had sent a letter of permission to SMSC asking it to increase its MBBS course seats from a 150 to 250 in 2013.


Presently, SMS has 250 MBBS seats, however the PG seats a mere 248 in number. Speaking on the college’s position for both the MBBS and PG courses an SMSC official pointed out out that the MBBS admissions may be capped for a mere 250, the PG courses did not have any such bindings as there was sufficient faculty to teach. The hospital had a base to expand in the direction of post graduation in the hospital.
