MCI approves 7 PG Medical Courses degree at Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital

With the requisite MCI, DMER and MUHS approval in hand YCM Hospital will offer 24 seats in 7 PG medical courses including Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Pathology, ENT and Psychiatry


Mumbai: Post-Graduate (PG) pool in Maharashtra state has obtained a boost up with 24 seats in 7 PG medical courses.


This comes after Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital; (YCM Hospital) affiliated with the Maharashtra University of Health Science (MUHS), Nashik; has bagged all the required permissions from the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the Director Medical Education and Research (DMER) to impart education for the 7 PG Medical courses.


The institute is soon going to commence the admission process for the academic year 2019-20 for its freshly acquired 24 PG medical seats. With this, the medical institute, run by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has become the first civic body-administered entity in the country to run PG medical courses without the base of a medical college.


“We had sought affiliation from MUHS, pursuant to which inspection was done, consent given and it was turned into the first affiliation on March 28,” Dr Padmakar Pandit, Dean of the new institute, confirmed about the affiliation.


Mirror reports that the institute will offer 24 seats in 7 PG medical courses including Anaesthesia, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Pathology, ENT and Psychiatry. As per the hospital website, it has received 3 seats each in the field of pathology, ENT, Gynaecology, Psyciatry while 4 seats each in the fields of Pediatrics and Anaesthesia.


Following the approval from the MCI in the month of February 2019, the required approval for the courses has been given by the DMER and MUHS.

Certain officials informed the daily that of the 24 seats, 12 will be filled by the Additional Director General of Medical Education (ADGME) at the All-India level. Already 11 students have been selected by ADGME and five of them have taken admission on April 1.

Meanwhile, Dr Deelip Mhaisekar, Vice Chancellor, MUHS told Mirror, “The decision is aimed at starting PG medical courses early. Bombay Hospital is the first in the state to have such a PG institute. YCM hospital is the second.”
