MCI amalgamates two DM courses

New Delhi: Through a recent gazette notification, the Medical council of India was seen making amendments to the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000 to amalgamate two super-specialty courses, namely DM )Immunology/Clinical Immunology as well as D.M. (Rheumatology) into one course- D.M. (Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology.

In exercise of powers conferred by Section 33 of the Indian Medical Council Act, 1956 (102 of 1956), the Medical Council of India with the previous sanction of the Central Government made amendments to the the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000. The new regulations have been termed “Postgraduate Medical Education (Amendment) Regulations, 2017" coming into force from the date of their publication in the Official Gazette.


With the amendment the following course has been recognized

In Schedule of the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000, Clause “C” under the heading of D.M. (Doctor of Medicine) the following shall be added after D.M. (Interventional Radiology) :—















Area of Specialization


Prior Requirement


D.M. (Clinical Immunology and Rheumatology


M.D. (General Medicine) M.D. (Paediatrics)


At the same time, MCI has de-recognised the Following DM courses by removing them from the list of recognised DM qualifications

In Schedule of the Postgraduate Medical Education Regulations, 2000, Clause “C” under the heading of D.M. (Doctor of Medicine), the following shall be deleted:—


D.M. (Immunology/Clinical Immunology)


D.M. (Rheumatology)
