Sola: A sexual harassment and molestation case has been filed by a 24-year-old MBBS student at the GMERS Medical College and Hospital against an associate professor of the same institute.

The accused doctor is believed to have inappropriately touched the victim, a 9th-semester MBBS student in a moving outpatient department lift, in which the two happened to be alone at the time.

No arrests have taken place yet though the investigation is underway, police inspector, JS Patel told DNA.

“The professor tried to grab the woman and kiss her, when they were alone in an elevator on June 19, on their way to the medical ward. Traumatized, the girl told college authorities about the incident but no actions was taken. She has hence approached police,” Patel told TOI. He added that the police is analyzing the CCTV footage and will question others about the behavior of the AP in question

The FIR, which has been registered at Sola police station also states that the college authorities did not act on the issue of sexual harassment. However, Nitin Vora, dean of GMERS college told TOI" When the woman told us about the incident on June 22, the women’s development cell of the college initiated an inquiry. The woman was called before the committee twice, but she came to the committee and said that she had already filed a complaint with the police so the college need not take any action".

He added that action against the AP will be taken based on the investigations of the police.
