BENGALURU: The number of fraud cases guaranteeing the allotment of the medical seat has been increasing at an alarming rate. Recently, the Tilak Nagar police have booked seven men on charges of cheating an MBBS aspirant of Rs 50 lakh on the pretext of getting him a seat in a private medical college. Shockingly, the deal was finalised in the University itself, where the accused allegedly claimed of working with the varsity staff.

The case relates to one MBBS aspirant who moved the police after being cheated by seven men on account of a false promise of MBBS admission at a medical college.

The aspirant, Shravan Kumar told the cops that he met the group of seven men at the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) office in Jayanagar 4th Block in early 2018. The accused promised him an MBBS seat at an amount payable of Rs 50 lakh.

The accused convinced Kumar stating that they work with RGUHS staff.

“I was enquiring about getting an MBBS seat when they promised me one in a city college, saying it will cost Rs 50 lakh. I trusted them as they claimed to be working with university staff. Accordingly, I gave them Rs 10 lakh advance in January 2018,” TOI quotes his complaint as stating.

After a month Sharavan handed over a sum of Rs 40 lakh to the accused. “Rajeev, Karan and others told me to go to Noida on May 4 to write the exam and gave a contact number. Accordingly, I reached Noida on the morning of May 4 and called the number repeatedly. But the phone was switched off. I called Rajeev and others, but their phones too were inaccessible,” he told police.

Seven days later, Shravan met Rajeev and others in the university and demanded an explanation. “Saying they cannot help me get a seat, they promised to return Rs 50 lakh and handed me a cheque for Rs 40 lakh. But that bounced. Now they are threatening me with dire consequences for demanding my money,” Kumar told the daily.
